This is a guide on how to install a new touch screen infotainment system for a Vauxhall/Opel Insignia. I will
also provide pictures that show of the interface of the new system along with some videos. The new system is a Hualingan HL-8747GB, which can be bought from this site Dvdplayer.com.com. I paid around £350 GBP.
Hopefully it will help other people interested in this system. So far it is a good system, I’ve not had any problems with it. Everything seems to work fine on it.
Here is a picture of the screen when it first arrived:
Thing you have to note here is the centre console around it is actually brownish and not jet black. But it isn’t noticable and I actually think it looks fine against the jet black.
Number 3
The back of the new unit:
I put some numbers on it:
1-2 form the harness pictured above. The harness also connects to a Can-bus decoder. Which has a lead coming from it that then connects into one of the leads coming from the adapter where the number 3 is placed(I call it the extras cable, as it has lots of extra inputs and outputs. Audio out and aux in, rear camera input etc.). This is were I went wrong with the console buttons and steering wheel controls. I didn’t see the wire coming from lead 3
Also you will see a cable at the bottom left of the unit, that is the aerial adaptor, you plug that in, then you plug in the vauxhall aerial cable in to the end of it. Oh and the black cable hanging to the right of the picture is the USB cable. It just has a standard usb port at the end for you to plug in a memory stic/usb drive or even an ipod cable(can’t confirm if it works or not. But what I can say is it doesn’t work with the iPhone. I just stream my music via A2DP using my iPhone)
Number 4
Front of the new unit:
You will see a small white connector on the front, you plug the touch screen in to that. There is a lead that you plug in to the touch screen then you plug it in to the unit.
That’s about it. Basically you plug 4 cables in to the back of the unit. 2 of the cables form the Harness + Can-bus decoder. The other is the extra’s lead like audio out and aux in, rear camera and speakers etc. Then the aerial lead.
The can-bus adaptor has a wire that plugs in to another wire on the extras lead that makes the steering wheel controls + front console buttons active.
Then you plug in the screen and attach the GPS aerial to the back of the screen it just screws on, it is the gold plated connector shown below:
Now for some interface pictures:
Main Interface
Bluetooth
Movie Player – to play from USB stick/Memory card
Music player – USB stick/drive/Memory card
Setting Page – See video for car settings
Radio interface
Note the heat settings display at the bottom, pretty cool that.
A2DP interface – Bluetooth streaming
Remote control lol
DVD player
Long ass post that.
Hope it shows of the unit a bit more and helps people who plan to buy it next year.

Hello Joe Mailey. I am also very interessted on the Hualingan System for the Insignia, but i also have some questions about it. I think you have already a lot of experience with the system and can aswer them. 1.Did the system have pre outputs for an amplifier and how much? (rear, front, woofer?) 2.My Opel Insignia have the original Opel Bluetooth handsfree. Can i use that with the system? 3.Is it possible to control all the Opel car Settings with the system? If not, which one are missing? 5.Do RDS Text for the Radio Stations work already? I heared that RDS don’t work so far but Hualingan will support this with a newer software? Do you know anything about this? 6.Do the Navi Central Controller works with the system, because i want to upgrade them if it’s possible.
Thank you very much
Chris
Chris,
1. System has many different outputs for different things. I can’t remember what most of them are but I guess you should be able to fit an amplifier.
2. I’m not sure if your original bluetooth would work with this system. My guess is it most likely won’t work.
3. As far as I’m aware you can control most settings. I had the basic model insignia, so there was not much settings I could change.
5. RDS – I know nothing about the RDS. As far as I’m aware it doesn’t work on the unit i had.
6. Not sure what the nav central controller is. But as a guess it most likely won’t work.
central controller is the knob beside the parking break switch
I don’t know if that controllor works as I do not have it on my car. I can tell you that the 3.5mm aux connector inside the arm rest doesn’t work with the radio.
Hi,
Wondering if DAB will still work with this unit?
I noticed tons of wires in your pictures, and it looks confusing. It is difficult to change it?
Thanks!
Anthony,
It is easy to change, there is a lot of wires but basically you are just plugging stuff in. think there is 3/4 plugs and that is the radio changed.
Great tutorial, thanks for posting – does anyone know if this will integrate with the insignia’s in-built microphones in the overhead panel? My 10-plate Insignia has these plus the phone controls, and just wondering if they work or as has been mentioned the microphone on the screen is used.
Steering wheel controls will work, but microphones won’t work. One of the biggest let downs of this system is the microphone, it’s attached to the screen.
Thanks very much for the info – invaluable, really.
